FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’S)
What is the difference between Pilates & Yoga?
Often people think Pilates is the same as Yoga. Whilst they have their similarities, they are in fact two very discipline’s. I found this article in Harper’s Bazaar provides a comprehensive & interesting summary: https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/beauty/fitness-wellbeing/a25626354/yoga-vs-pilates/
Can I come to a group Pilates class if I have no experience?
With the advantage of running small group classes only, newbies are always welcome in my group classes (after completion of a health questionnaire and discussion of experience to date); modifications will be provided throughout the class where necessary. However, where possible, I would always strongly suggest at least a couple of 1:1 sessions to get started.
What is the difference between Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates?
The main difference between mat Pilates and reformer Pilates is that mat Pilates (which simply only requires a mat on the floor) uses your body weight for resistance, while reformer Pilates uses a machine with springs and straps to add resistance. Mat training provides a foundation for learning to control your muscles while reformer classes add resistance to improve strength.
Meditation – What, Why, How?
Take a look at my responses to FAQs regarding meditation practice, including who it is suitable for and why it is so good for us.
What is Reiki?
The word “reiki” means “universal life energy. Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that uses gentle touch to promote relaxation and well-being. Reiki energy is accessible to everyone, but one must be trained to practice Reiki therapeutically. It is not affiliated with any religion or sect, though it does involve spirituality. Reiki is a straightforward therapy that involves the transfer of energy from a practitioner to a subject. Whilst reiki does not claim to heal every ailment it can prepare the mind and body for healing. Reiki can take more than one session to provide benefits.
What do I wear to classes/sessions?
For Pilates & Stretch classes, leggings with a vest top and perhaps a long sleeved, lightweight layer to start. For Meditation and Reiki, comfortable clothing, along with layers such as socks and a sweater/jumper in case you get cooler as you relax into the sessions. Always bring water too.
How often should I practice?
Everyone is different, but protecting regular time to nurture your wellbeing is vital. The best way to do this, is to make it part of your routine. Dedicate time to your weekly schedule, and in the same way you wouldn’t miss a scheduled work meeting, Doctors appointment etc, make sure you commit to your scheduled wellbeing time.
